The Story of Cities and Forests: Exploring Human Impact on Ecosystems

The fourth day of the “Harmony in Diversity” project, coordinated by Megújulásért Környezetvédelmi Egyesület under the Erasmus+ KA152 Youth Exchange programme (Project No: 2025-3-HU01-KA152-YOU-000376909), focused on helping young people explore the impact of human activities on natural habitats through creative and interactive methods.🌍

Bringing together participants from Turkey, Romania, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, and Hungary, the day began with “The Living Forest Film Project”, where young people learned the fundamentals of stop-motion animation and experienced the process of creating environmental-themed short films. Guided by experienced trainers, participants used photography and animation techniques to transform nature conservation messages into creative visual content, combining artistic expression with environmental education.

Later in the day, participants took part in “The Urban Jungle Project,” an activity led by the Turkish team. Through this hands-on workshop, young people had the opportunity to observe the effects of human development on ecosystems in a tangible and engaging way. Participants first created a miniature forest complete with plants, animals, and natural habitats. They then gradually transformed the same environment by adding roads, buildings, and vehicles, visually demonstrating the impact of urbanization on wildlife habitats.✨

The transformation was documented through stop-motion animation, allowing participants to clearly visualize how natural environments shrink as urban areas expand and how this process affects endangered species. By actively participating in the creation and transformation of the model ecosystem, young people gained a deeper understanding of habitat loss and the importance of balancing development with environmental protection.

Through activities aligned with the project’s objectives of promoting environmental sustainability, protecting biodiversity, and increasing youth awareness of environmental challenges, participants strengthened not only their creativity but also their critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The fourth day of Harmony in Diversity successfully combined environmental education with innovative learning methods, encouraging young people to become more conscious and active advocates for nature conservation. 🌿
